Dark metal from Pohjola since 1996

"Like AT THE GATES and IN FLAMES (both from Sweden), Finland's EVEMASTER is among the Scandinavian death metal/black metal bands that has embraced the style known as "melodic death metal." EVEMASTER isn't death metal in the grindcore sense; they don't sound like CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, or CANCEL. Rather, EVEMASTER takes certain aspects of death metal/black metal -- an extreme vocal style, very dark and troubling lyrics -- and combines them with an actual sense of melody and harmony. Musically, EVEMASTER owes a lot to '80s power metal and has been influenced by old-school headbangers like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Queensrÿche, but the sort of extreme vocals that lead singer Jarno Taskula brings to EVEMASTER certainly aren't something that one will find on Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime or Maiden's The Number of the Beast. In various interviews, EVEMASTER's members have been quoted as saying that although their lyrics are dark, they don't identify with the term black metal because they don't identify with Satanism and the Occult."

EVEMASTER was formed during the bleak autumn of 1996. Tomi Mykkänen (music) and Jarno Taskula (vocals) formed the band from the ashes of Finnish death/thrash band Mortal God.

The first demo "In Thine Majesty" was released early 1997 and after that labels became very interested in the band. Deal was signed and first album "Lacrimae Mundi" was released 1998 by Finnish KTOK Records. The album was received very well and it was also re-released by Polish AMP Records in 1999.

After "Lacrimae Mundi" it took almost 5 years for the next album "Wither" to surface. The album featured a bit more mature band which had evolved melodically and added heavier parts in the music. "Wither" was also received very well. The drums on the album are played by Jaska Raatikainen from Children of Bodom.

In 2005 the band released remixed and partly re-recorded version of the first album entitled "MMIV Lacrimae Mundi". Drum-machine from the original album was replaced by real drums played by Jaska Raatikainen again.

The newest album "III" was released in Scandinavia in June 2010. The album shows even more mature song writing. The album features again a few session musicians such as Dan Swanö (vocals), Markus Vanhala (lead guitar), Enrico Annus (drums), Ville Sorvali of Moonsorrow (bass), Ismo Monola (keyboards), Harri Hyytiäinen (backing vocals) and Rod Boston (spoken word). The album has received rave reviews around the world. The album was released in Scandinavia by Supernova Records in June 2010. The album have since seen international releases by Inverse Records (Finland) and The Goatmancer Records (Italy).

The work on the new material has started. 2024 will see a new release from the band.

EVEMASTER have played gigs with bands such as Anathema, Grip Inc, Pain of Salvation, Throes Of Dawn, Samael, Enochian Crescent, Profane Omen, Vader, Battlelore, Korpiklaani, Lacuna Coil, Enthrope, Omnium Gatherum, and a lot more.
